On May 23rd, Craft Beer Market Edmonton hosted their monthly Brewmaster’s dinner event.  As May is Celiac Awareness Month, Craft hosts an annual glutenfree event.  Partnering on this event was Glutenberg Beer, their distributor Untapped and Care Bakery gluten free products of Calgary (available at Bens Meats & Deli in Edmonton).  Our dining companions were not celiac, and were not attending because the event was gluten free, but because it was a regular Brewmaster’s event hosted at Craft.

Many delicious courses were had, and no one left hungry.  Each course was thoughtfully paired with a Glutenberg beer, and although it seemed impossible, each beer complimented each course extremely well.

Welcome beer & amouse bouche

Upon arriving we were greeted by Lyndsey the Events coordinator and served a Bruschetta with poached pear, fennel and arugula on a crostini paired with the Glutenberg Blonde.

Amouse Bouche Poached Pear & fennel Bruschetta

We eagerly sipped the Blonde it was an incredibly hot spring evening, and found it pleasant and the bruschetta  a light palette greeting. We were fairly hungry having tried to leave enough room for the four-course event.

The first course followed with a Gruyere Risotto paired with

Gruyere Risotto

Glutenberg Gose.  A unique beer indeed. On it’s own, we agreed we probably wouldn’t have sampled it, but paired with the creamy risotto, it was enjoyable. The saltiness of the beer cut the richness of the creamy risotto well.  The watermelon radish was amazingly flavourful and a delightful compliment.

Tempura Cauliflower

The second course was served – a Cauliflower tempura with the Glutenberg APA. The chefs worked hard to trial this dish, and finally arrived at a potato flour crusting that was crunchy while the cauliflower was tender.  The beer had various flavour profiles for every person at the table.

Third course was the main – a battered basa fish with black garlic dipping sauce, gochujiang spiced mashed yams served with

Glutenberg double IPA.. Consensus was that we all would order this dish were it on the menu.

For dessert we were served a chestnut creme caramel in a dish with an espresso macaron paired with the Glutenberg Rousse (Red). A sweet beer, with an interesting aftertaste.  Paired brilliantly with the dessert.  By this time, we were incredibly full and unable to finish any of our beverages.
